- W2301867746 abstract "In view of the contradictory data in the literature on the dynamics of radioactivity within the organism of animals treated orally with Fe/sup 59/Cl/sub 3/, the accumulation of this material in the organs and the doses attributable to it were deterinined, comparing the results with data obtained with animals subjected to a single intravenous treatment with Fe/sup 59/Cl/sub 3/. A previously described method (Materialy po Toksikologii Radioaktivn. Vesh. 2: 14-26; 27-38(1960)) was used for the study. It was found that a single treatment with 2 ml of the Fe/sup 59/Cl/sub 3/ solution containing 650 mu C Fe/sup 59/ and 3.3 mg/ml of stable Fe results in the absorption of about 5% the amount introduced; the remainder is removed within a week. The radioactive iron in the bloodstream is removed very slowly from the organism, with a biological half life of at least 100 days. If 2 ml of a Fe/sup 59/Cl/sub 3/ solution containing 3 to 7 or 0.3 to 0.7 mg/ml of stable Fe is introduced, the maximum of removal is reached during the first week; the maximum level in the blood is established within 45 to 65 days. After stopping the treatment, the Fe/sup 59/ accumulated in themore » intestines is removed fast but the activity in the other parts of the body decreases as slowly as in the case of a single parametric introduction. The blood, the spleen, then the liver, lungs, and the parenchymal organs exhibit the highest specific activity. The largest total BETA and gamma activity was found in the liver and spleen; 1.235 to 1.560 rad/ day for animals treated with 10 mu C/kg and 0.33 to 0.173 rad for a day for rabbits treated with 1 mu C/kg. The activity level was higher, the lower the amount of the stable carrier. (TTT)« less" @default.
