- W2306526918 abstract "Future engineers will embark on solving complicated and practical problems with skills of creative thinking in teamwork, which make engineering education facing the new challenge of developing students’ creativity. Recently, problem and project based learning (PBL) has been explored as one way to construct creative learning environment by a number of higher educational institutions. Psychological research and theory suggested that by having students learn through the experience of solving problems, they can learn both content and thinking strategies. In PBL, students work in collaborative groups to identify what they need to learn in order to solve a problem. The teacher acts to facilitate the learning process rather than to provide knowledge [1]. For engineering students, PBL therefore can provide an opportunity to synthesize prior learning and apply this learning to solving a more-ended problem in teamwork. It can also stimulate an enjoyable realistic exercise and involve explorations by means of a hands-on personal experience. This experience necessarily instills the development of initiative and enhances the powers of creative thought [2]. Literature has showed that students’ creativity can be developed whether explicitly or implicitly through diverse pedagogical practices. As suggested in studies that if our model of learning is a socio-constructivist one, then education should offer opportunities for learner engagement. It will offer opportunities for students to ask questions, identify problems, determine lines of enquiry, generate their own ideas and draw thoughtful conclusions[3]. Accordingly, some techniques to foster creative thinking like Creative Problem Solving(CPS), TRIZ, Mind and Boday approach, ect. have been suggested in pedagogical practices recently[4].
