- W230892241 abstract "The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of continuous applications of extra urine on plant and soil for continuous cultivation. Thus, pot test was conducted in greenhouse, using synthetic urine, Komatsuna and sandy soil. 34.86ml of urine (U-Vo) which contained 140mg-N and corresponded to N-based standard requirement for Komatsuna, 69.72ml of urine (U-2Vo), 104.58ml of urine (U-3V0), 58.82ml of modified Hoagland’s solution (V-H) which contained 140mg-N as positive control and non-fertilizer (N-C) were set for 3 cultivation period (35 days each) using the same soil and the similar rate of fertilizer in each cultivation step. The results indicate that U-2Vo and U-3Vo had no depressed growth on plant during three times cultivation, since the original soil used in our study was far to be saline; and about 18% of the total Na applied in the highest urine treatments (U-2Vo and U-3Vo) was removed by plant from soil and the removal Na application from urine reached more than 59 % in all urine treatments. However, soil EC increased from the 1 st to the 3 rd cultivation in all set treatments and was significantly high in U-2Vo and U-3Vo. Conversely, soil pH decreased with extra urine and might be perhaps caused by a high nitrate contents soil after continuous cultivation. N lost from soil was constantly high in extra urine but it didn’t seem to be accelerated by continuous cultivation, because lower in the 2 nd cultivation than the 1 st and 3 rd one. So, we concluded that continuous cultivation with high urine application had an impact on soil EC increase and soil pH decrease. These results suggested that soil management to maintain these parameters should be further considered for long-term reuse scale even in controlled urine application and low EC soil." @default.
