- W2310196814 abstract "OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present paper was to make a retrospective study of the facial fractures treated at Hospital da Restauracao in Recife, Pernambuco, from January to December 1998. MATERIALS AND METHOD: One thousand four hundred and eighty-six records were examined to collect patient data, etiology of the traumatisms and anatomical site of the fractures. RESULTS: There was a total of 1758 fractures, 84% of which were in males, with a predominance of the 21-30 years age group. The most frequent causes were physical aggression, comprising 43% of the sample, and the mandible was the most affected bone. CONCLUSIONS: It is concluded that male patients between 21 and 30 years of age are the ones most affected by oral and maxillofacial traumatism with interpersonal aggression as the most frequent cause.
