- W2312413360 abstract "Discolouration incidents are the result of hydraulic disturbances, which can resuspend loosely attached material from the pipe wall. Particles that break through water treatment processes are an important source of material contributing to the discolouration potential in a pipe. The presence of particles in treated water is therefore an important factor in the development of discolouration risk in the distribution network. The performance of three different treatment processes is presented through a cumulative distribution to characterise the stability or `spikyness' of the particle volume in the finished water. The effect of the particle load in the network is analysed in several DMAs supplied at a single point with Resuspension Potential Measurements (RPMs) over a period of 6 months. All DMAs are cleaned prior to the research to bring them on the same level. Results up till now show that the relationship between the rate of sediment build-up in a distribution network and the overall performance of a treatment plant is plausible. Next to that but more in general it is conclude that RPM is a sensitive and accurate method to asses the discolouration risk and uni-directional cleaning under strict boundaries (1.5 m/s, clear water front and 2 to 3 turnovers) is an effective way of cleaning a network." @default.
