In order to test this approach, we designed two simple models. One consists of a dip layer and a horizontal layer, and the other consists of four horizontal layers. VSP Full wavefield and up‐going wavefield, which serves as input respectively, are used to derive angle gathers by VSP RTM. Noise on the VSP angle gathers from full wavefield is found more serious than that from up‐going wavefield. Finally, angle domain VSP RTM is also applied to a field data. The image is compared with Kirchhoff PSDM and surface profile.
