- W2313019229 abstract "The cutting process of disc cutters mounted on a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) can be simulated with linear cutting tests. The force path diagrams of such tests show that the loading of a disc cutter oscilliates strongly and that the occuring forces can reach a multiple of the values that can be found in common literature (e.g. 250 kN loading for a 17 disc cutter). The characteristics of these diagrams are not only dependent on different rock parameters, but also on parameters of the test rig and the cutter itself. These influences overlap each other. As soon as they are understood thoroughly, the geotechnical influences can be isolated and analyzed in order to gain information about the tunnel face. Assuming that cutter forces can be measured in situ, the correlation between forces and geotechnical parameters can provide a strong aid for the geological and geotechnical interpretation of the tunnel face in mechanized tunneling." @default.
