- W2313103785 abstract "The mission of the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) is to develop and inspire air and space leaders with vision for tomorrow. The goal of the Astronautics Department is to participate in this development with a view towards space applications. A key requirement, therefore, is an understanding of rocket propulsion issues. To this end, the Astronautics Department at USAFA has developed a course textbook (Space Propulsion Analysis and Design), has two courses directly related to rocket system and development, and has two research courses that can be applied to rocket problems. All of these courses are related and compliment each other. This paper describes these courses. Space Propulsion Analysis and Design Prior to 1992 we had been struggling with the problem that there was not a text on rocket propulsion that was really adequate for our program. The requirements for an appropriate text were: • simple language and presentation • cover the basics of rocket propulsion • discuss some basic astrodynamics & launch • discuss thermodynamics & thermochemistry • cover vehicle sizing • cover each of the important technologies • discuss the design process • give sufficient data to support a The resulting textbook: Space Propulsion Analysis and Design .
