• W2313234839 abstract "This study was undertaken to estimate the DMF reducing effect of mouth rinsing with a 0.01% NaF solution. Schoolchildren aged 6 to 10 years of three elementary schools in Sendai were selected and studied for two years. The children were divided into three experimental groups by schools: Group A was the control group with no rinsing, Group B was an unsupervised fluoride-rinsing group where the children were instructed to rinse their mouths for 30 seconds with 10 ml of 0.01% NaF solution every evening at home, and Group C was a supervised fluoride-rinsing group where the children rinsed their mouths 30 seconds with a 7 to 10 ml of 0.05% NaF solution after every school lunch under supervision of the school teachers.The base-line data of the three groups were well balanced (Table 1). Many children of Group B stopped rinsing during the experimental period because of loss of interest. The children of Group B were therefore divided into two groups, experiment completed and experiment interrupted (Table 2). The post-experimental data are shown in Table 4.The comparison between two-year DMF increments of the groups is presented in Tables 5 to 10. The new DMF teeth and surfaces of Group B-completed were reduced by a statistically significant difference of 28.6 to 32.0%, but there was no such reduction in Group B-interrupted. The difference between the DMF increments of Group B-completed and -interrupted was statistically significant. The new DMF teeth and surfaces of Group C were reduced by a significant difference of 14.5 to 29.6%. The reduction effect of Group B-completed was larger than Group C, but the difference was not significant, except for the new DMFS rate.From these findings it was concluded that the DMF reducing effect of daily mouth rinsing with a 0.01% NaF solution was a significant difference of about 30%." @default.
