• W2313744096 abstract "In this final issue of Journal of Cell Science in 2011, I would like to bid farewell to Fiona Watt, who is stepping down as Editor-in-Chief of JCS after serving the cell biology community in this capacity for an impressive two decades. It has been a pleasure working closely with Fiona in my capacity as Executive Editor, and we have seen in many changes to the journal together since I was appointed to the role four years ago.The most obvious change has been our website moving to a web 2.0 platform, along with a complete site redesign, giving JCS a fresh, new online look with enhanced functionality (http://jcs.biologists.org/). You can also keep up-to-date with the latest from JCS on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/JCellScience) and Twitter, and access the journal on the move with our new mobile-optimised website.We have introduced other new features as well, including our hugely popular Minifocuses (http://jcs.biologists.org/site/collection/minifocuses.xhtml), which are collections of three to six review-type articles based around a common theme. You might have seen them in booklet format at some of the meetings we attend during the year. We have also introduced Article Series (http://jcs.biologists.org/site/collection/article_series.xhtml), which are ongoing collections of articles that are focused on a current ‘hot topic’ in cell biology. High-resolution versions of our Cell Science at a Glance posters are available online, and readers can now download jpeg files of individual poster panels that can be used for teaching purposes and in presentations. Finally, we also recruited two new female diarists – X-Gal and Molette – to complement our good friend Mole in our regular Sticky Wicket column (http://jcs.biologists.org/search?submit=yes&tocsectionid=STICKY+WICKET).All of these changes are, of course, only enhancements to the strong institution that is JCS, which Fiona has presided over with her distinctive style for the past 20 years. The entire team of in-house staff at JCS joins me in wishing Fiona the very best with her new ventures.I am also delighted to welcome our newly appointed Editor-in-Chief, Michael Way, who will be an enthusiastic and dynamic new leader for JCS.
