- W231449829 abstract "This chapter explores the possibility that scaling analysis can be applied effectively to characterize the dynamics of water in field soils. Miller similitude is a physically based algorithm for defining scale-invariant relationships concerning the properties of water in homogeneous porous media. If two porous media exhibit the same scaled relationships among their transport coefficients and water potentials, they are said to be Miller-similar, and if they share identical values of the scaled properties, they are in Miller-similar states. The physics of infiltration in porous media can be described in its simplest aspects by a nonlinear partial differential equation known as the Richards equation. A physically based, generalized scaling analysis is applied to the equation of motion for water in soil (the Richards equation) as well as to the rigorous statistical characterization of soil-water scale factors in heterogeneous field soils." @default.
