- W2314672287 abstract "A hydrocarbon contaminated area and an urban sanitary landfill were investigated using DC-resistivity method. Soil samples were collected from both areas, based on the geophysical survey. Electrical resistivity of each sample was measured in laboratory. Microbial population was also measured in the hydrocarbon contaminated area’s samples, with the objective to correlate the geophysical signature with the occurrence of biodegradation. The results show that biodegradation could be occurring and therefore, contributing to the recorded conductive anomaly. Moisture content could also be impacting the resistivity measurements. An experiment with varying contaminant concentration flow was conducted with the samples collected at the landfill, aiming to study the contaminant effect on the electrical response. The results show that changes in the electrical model could be due to variations in clay content. However, resistivity tends to be insensitive to lithology variations on highly contaminated areas." @default.
