- W2315072265 abstract "The organization of the entomological activities of the armed services is based upon a primary division into two major areas. The first comprises all of the problems associated with medical entomology and is naturally a responsibility of the medical services of the military departments. The second includes all non-medical entomology and is sometimes referred to as the“economic pest”area, or more aptly“engineer entomology services”since primary responsibility for this area rests with the engineers. A consideration of the contribution of insecticides to the armed services requires some concept of the extent to which insects may affect the mission and physical establishment of the military departments. The effect of arthropod-borne diseases on military campaigns throughout history is too well known to entomologists to require detailed review here. However, in order to provide a frame of reference for this discussion it will be helpful to recall a few significant examples." @default.
