- W2315178954 abstract "The segregation of impurities to the grain boundaries of metallic materials can extensively impair their fracture behavior. Reversible temper embrittlement was attributed to equilibrium grain-boundary segregation of nonmetallic impurities as early as 1948. Non-equilibrium grain-boundary segregation was suggested in the late of 1960 and developed in the late of 1980. Recently, three types of intergranular embrittlement, namely, reversible temper embrittlement of steel, intergranular corrosion embrittlement of stainless steel and intermediate temperature embrittlement of metals and alloys were all attributed to the non-equilibrium grain-boundary segregation of impurities. In the beginning of this century, stress-driven segregation was developed. Its most important application and development are recently to explain the measurement uncertainty of mechanical properties in tensile tests, which will imperil the reliability of tension tests." @default.
