- W2315228212 abstract "The original San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system comprises over 70 miles of rapid transit line and 34 stations (underground, at grade, and aerial) and was completed in 1976 to 1968 state-of-the-art seismic design standards. These seismic criteria considered only the San Andreas and Hayward faults and concluded that a single deterministic design response spectrum throughout the BART system anchored at 0.33g or 0.5g for shallow and deep soil sites, respectively, was adequate. Modern procedures to develop ground motions for the design of structures are significantly more complex. The seismic criteria for the BART East Bay, Colma, and San Francisco Airport (SFO) extensions, for example, began with a much more detailed model of potential earthquake sources, a much more complex way to model the effect of attenuation with distance of motions caused by earthquakes on these sources, a more comprehensive way to model the effect of site foundations, and some explicit consideration of uncertainties in all these model parameters." @default.
