- W2315663648 abstract "crometers; body length 193, body width 101, oral sucker 50 by 53, ventral sucker 35 by 37, tail length 19, and stylet length 32. In size, these cercariae were much the same as those occurring in A. alleei from Colima, Mexico (Ito et al., 1985, loc. cit.), and cercariae obtained by experimental infection of A. colombiensis, a suspected first intermediate host of P. mexicanus in Peru (Malek et al., 1985, Journal of Parasitology 71: 253256). Kawashima and Miyazaki (1963, Japanese Journal of Parasitology 12: 94-97, 154-161; 1964, Ibid. 13: 421-426, 459-462) reported that the susceptibility ofO. nosophora to infection ofParagonimus was different among the species of worms. Paragonimus ohirai infected approximately 100% of the exposed snails and developed to the cercarial stage 123 days after exposure, whereas P. miyazakii did so with a low infection rate (4.5%). In contrast, neither infection nor deeters; body length 193, body width 101, oral er 50 by 53, ventral sucker 35 by 37, tail th 19, and stylet length 32. In size, these cariae were much the same as those ccurring . al e i from Colima, Mexico (Ito et al., 1985, . cit.), and cercariae obtained by exp rimental ection of A. col mbiensis, a suspected first inediate host of P. mexicanus in Peru (Malek al., 1985, Journal of Parasitology 71: 253velopment of P. westermani was observed in O. nosophora. It was also reported that P. heterotremus (Asavisanu et al., 1985, Southeast Asian Journal of Tropical Medicine and Public Health 16: 345) developed to the cercarial stage in O. nosophora. In conclusion, the present study demonstrates that P. mexicanus of the Mexican strain is able to develop to the cercarial stage in 0. nosophora, although the infection rate is not as high as that of P. miyazakii. We thank Professor A. R. Ramothe, Universidad National Autonoma de Mexico, Mexico, and Professors H. Miranda and N. Ibanez, Universidad National de Trujillo, Peru, for their cooperation. This research was supported by grants in aid for Overseas Scientific Survey (1981-1984) from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture, Japan. lopment of P. w stermani was observed in O. sophora. It w s also reported that P. heteroe us (Asavisanu et al., 1985, Southeast Asian urnal of Tropical Medici e and Public Health : 345) developed o the cercarial stage in O." @default.
