The purposes of this exploration are 1) to understand the hydrocarbon carbon system in deep coalbed, 2) to understand the deep subsea biosphere and its roles of biological carbon cycle system, and 3) researches for basic science and engineering applications to create sustaining carbon and energy cycle system. We carried out riser drilling in the suspended hole, which D/V Chikyu drilled to 511m in 2006, till 2,466m under 1180m sea water. It is a world record of drilling depth in scientific drilling. We took spot cores of 263.5m with rotary coring system. The recovery was 73.77% (194.39m). Cuttings and mud gas were taken for drilling operation and science research. They are analyzed onboard laboratory. Geophysical well logging, natural gamma ray, resistivity, sonic. velocity, density, porosity, VSP, temperature, pressure, and mobility of formation liquid were measured for geological and geophysical interpretation and understanding the biological and chemical environment. Six 250cc-bottle of formation water were taken at 1978m below seafloor. Sampled formation fluid was shared with scientists, and advanced analysis is being carried out in their shore-base laboratories.
