We demonstrate that the sensor orientationangle can be estimated through maximizing the correlationbetween the radial-vertical component and the Hilbert transformedvertical-vertical component of the empirical Greenstensor. We apply this method to L-SCAN OBS array data collectedfrom the Eastern Lau Spreading Center, and illustrateits robustness by comparing the obtained orientations with resultsfrom a conventional method utilizing teleseismic P andRayleigh wave polarizations. The advantage of the ambientnoise method lies in the large number of inter-station ray pathsand excellent azimuthal coverage for large OBS arrays. Potentialapplications include continuous monitoring of sensororientations during time-lapse survays.
