- W2316296342 abstract "In the resurgence of political geography there is little concern with the study of war and the causes of war, threats to peace, and conflict resolution. A geographical contribution must be set within theories of international relations, but there is a place for inductive-empirical case-studies. A growing literature on war and peace studies must also be taken into account. A framework for system simulation of interactions in the Indian Ocean is outlined, at all scale levels and for all political actors, in the interests of tension management. The stages of analysis are, first, the character and significance of the Indian Ocean as interpreted in the image plans and behaviour spaces of decision-takers; and, secondly, the objectives and interaction of the superpowers with each other, with client states and, finally the degree of co-operation among littoral states. The interrelationships are set within the context of changing events, focused on the use of sea power as an instrument of policy. Soviet and U.S. policies are contrasted, in their impact on littoral states and on the United Nations Zone of Peace proposals." @default.
