- W2316303601 abstract "Thermally assembled hydrogen bonding cages which are neither size nor guest specific have been developed using a poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) host. A water-soluble conjugated polymer poly(2,5-bis(3-sulfonatopropoxy)-1,4-phenylene, disodium salt-alt-1,4-phenylene) (PPP-OPSO${}_{3}$) as a donor and tris(2,2-bipyridyl)- ruthenium(II) [Ru(bpy)${}_{3}$${}^{2+}$] as an acceptor have been isolated and trapped in such a PVA matrix network. This is a unique system that shows negligible exciton diffusion and the donor and acceptor predominantly interact by a direct single step excitation transfer process (DSSET). Singlet and triplet exciton quenching have been studied. Time-resolved fluorescence lifetime measurement at different acceptor concentrations has enabled us to determine the dimensionality of the energy-transfer process within the PVA scaffold. Our results reveal that the PVA hydrogen bonding network effectively isolates the donor-acceptor molecules in a two-dimensional layer structure (lamella) leading to the condition where a precise control of the energy and charge transfer is possible." @default.
