- W2316641307 abstract "Parasites, apparently largely because of the toxic substances which they secrete, have been recognized as one of the factors which may excite the formation of neoplasms. Borrel (1) found nematodes in the center of sarcomas and adenocarcinomas of rats. In 1911, Haaland (2) described tumors which occurred in the mammary glands of mice and apparently were caused by nematode parasites which were found within the tumor. Papillomatous gastric tumors containing a species of Dispharagus were reported by Wasielewski (3). A possible relationship between trichiniasis and cancer has been studied by many investigators. Ewing (4) mentions finding trichina in cancerous tongues quite frequently. The work of Fibiger (5) on the experimental production of cancer in rat stomachs is well known. In rats fed with cockroaches, infected with the nematode, Spiroptera sp., chronic inflammation occurred followed by the formation of papillomatous carcinomas which eventually metastasized. In 1916, Izumi (6) reported four cases in man in which ascaris had invaded the pancreas by way of the pancreatic duct. Egg nodules and larger lesions, associated with the entire worm, were described in detail." @default.
