- W2316831489 abstract "The entire surface of large-size paintings can be X-rayed by separately exposing a sufficient number of X-ray films of the size 30 x 40 cm [1]. By mounting together the developed films the complete radiographs are obtained. For viewing these composite X-radiographs large illuminators have been specially constructed [2]. In practice, fluctuations in kilovoltage and tube current and the lack of uniformity in the development process cause variations in overall density between the different films and as a result a more or less pronounced 'checker-board' effect spoils the readability of the assemblies. In order to overcome this disadvantage it is necessary to maintain a close control of all the factors governing the density of the radiographs [3]. This can be achieved by establishing constant exposure conditions and by employing a standardized processing procedure relying on suitable chemical replenishment. Additionally, equal density radiographs offer the advantage that, by means of one single photographic reproduction of their assembly, high-quality montages can be obtained without cutting up the original films." @default.
