- W2316961234 abstract "In order to investigate the influence of reinforcement on the development of cracks and the behaviour of composite slabs as part of composite beams in hogging bending areas, experimental investigations and parameter studies by calculation have been carded out at the University of Kaiserslautem. These studies are described in (1, 2, 3, 4_). In this paper the main results of the studies are described. The results in details show: The development of cracking in slabs as part of composite beams is decisively influenced by the transverse reinforcement. Proposals to determine the minimum reinforcement with reference to the service load and to calculate the crack width in dependance on the transverse reinforcement must be determined. The experimental investigations with composite beams showed, that in view of the load-bearing capacity different kinds of minimum reinforcement exist: one to reach the plastic moment and one to make the application of the plastic hinge theonj possible. Conditions for composite beams to reach both kinds of minimum reinforcement are determined. PROPOSAL FOR THE LIMITATION OF THE MINIMUM RATIO OF REINFORCEMENT rain pl NECESSARY TO LIMIT CRACK WIDTH IN SERVICE STATE If uncontrolled cracking is to be prevented in areas where cracking is probable, then the reinforcement used must be able to carry the tensile force in the concrete that is released during initial cracking without reaching the yield strain of the reinforcement. Otherwise it is not possible to distribute the resulting deformation over several cracks of a limited crack width. In the testing carded out initial cracking always occured at an early stage ~, 3_). What is new in the following proposal is therefore the introduction of a reduction factor k~ which takes into consideration the earty initial cracking due to transverse reinforcement, leading to the reduction of the minimum ratio of reinforcement rain p~ and to more economic design." @default.
