- W2317260030 abstract "We are both delighted to be appointed co-Editors-in-Chief of the International Journal of Management Reviews (IJMR). In Ossie's case, this is a re-appointment, while Caroline moves from her role as Consulting Editor to join Ossie at the helm. Over the past four years IJMR has consolidated its position as one of the leading journals in business (13/120) and management (20/174). The number of full-text downloads increased from 100,000 in 2010 to over 260,000 in 2012. We would like to thank Allan Macpherson and Kamel Mellahi (co-Editors-in-Chief from 2010–2012 and 2012–2013 respectively) for their role in developing the journal. As a new team, we both look forward to improving the journal by continuing to attract high-quality state-of-the-art reviews. We remain committed to IJMR's interdisciplinary and inclusive approach and we believe the Journal plays an increasingly important role on the scholarly global stage, where the process of publication and learning is changing rapidly. In particular, we observe how current arguments that pressure academics to publish in highly ranked journals have detrimentally influenced the field of business and management to the point where pursuit of publication has compromised the ‘health and vibrancy’ of scholarship, with journal rankings becoming a greater priority than addressing ‘the questions that matter most to society’ (Adler and Harzing 2009: 72). We further note how scholarly focus on citation counts has intensified over the past decade, with the number of references to published papers often conveyed as a measure of the standing and influence of those who write them (Podsakoff et al. 2008). It is our belief, however, that citations do not in themselves indicate quality of scholarship. Rather, the relevance and theoretical positioning of well-researched, methodologically transparent and thorough papers are the factors which make valuable contributions to debate. It is the quality of research and writing which consolidates scholarly reputations and, ultimately, enhances citation counts. In the context of such global pressures to publish and be cited, we believe that IJMR offers a unique opportunity for scholars to take stock of their areas, create firm foundations on which to advance original ideas, and to set out new research agendas. IJMR provides an ideal stage for senior faculty who seek to critically evaluate and/or re-think understandings within their existing field – or who are aiming to shift their area of focus through reviewing their area of concern; developing new and creative approaches with the potential to dramatically influence the scholarly arenas in which they operate. The Journal also offers a unique opportunity for early career academics to locate themselves as new players within their scholarly arena (and could potentially offer early career academics and scholarly mentors an opportunity to publish jointly papers which define and analyse current and emerging ideas within their fields). In a forthcoming issue of IJMR we propose to develop our ideas in a full editorial. In first introducing ourselves as a new team, however, we seek to affirm our commitment to IJMR and to strengthen and grow its reputation as the first reviews journal in the field of business and management. We welcome high quality submissions from all the main management sub-disciplines and will continue to pursue the British Academy of Management goals of addressing the intellectual and academic needs of the management community on a global scale." @default.
