Bacon's philosophy was so familiar to all readers of Review, though, that Everett thought it quite unnecessary to speak further of it. Instead, he would confine his remarks to Bacon's political career, a subject on which, presumably, he might be able to enlighten his readers. Even though Francis Bacon was acknowledged intellectual mentor of that whole generation of scientists, it is difficult to find any American writer during early part of nineteenth century who did not assume, with Everett, that all his readers knew all about philosophy of Lord Bacon.
