The use of this kinematic attribute to stack locally coherent events can increase the signal‐to‐noise ratio, improve image quality and reduce artifacts of the Kirchhoff imaging. Following this concept, we present a simple combination of classical Kirchhoff prestack depth migration (PreSDM) and a local linear stack based on the horizontal surface slowness information. This modified Kirchhoff migration can be implemented by including the linear stacks for all horizontal slownesses determined from the ray tracing during the migration process. Alternatively, we can use the instantaneous slowness information extracted from the prestack data using local slant stacks and semblance analysis to select the data to be included in the migration. We apply these slowness‐driven Kirchhoff prestack migration algorithms to sparse synthetic ocean bottom data (OBS) data and the kinematic migrated images show significant improvements in image quality and a great reduction in the migration artifacts compared to a conventional Kirchhoff algorithm.Permalink: https://doi.org/10.1190/1.3627893FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited ByImplementation of Kirchhoff prestack depth migration on GPUDavide Teixeira, Alex Yeh, and Sampath Gajawada19 August 2013 SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2011ISSN (print):1052-3812 ISSN (online):1949-4645Copyright: 2011 Pages: 4424 Publisher:Society of Exploration Geophysicists HistoryPublished: 25 May 2012 CITATION INFORMATION German Garabito and Paul Stoffa, (2011), Slowness‐driven Kirchhoff prestack depth migration: Application in synthetic OBS data, SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts : 3351-3355. https://doi.org/10.1190/1.3627893 Plain-Language Summary PDF DownloadLoading ..." @default.
