- W2318441341 abstract "During fiscal year 2002, startup testing was initiated on the Ultrahigh-Pressure Test Facility (UHPTF), constructed and operated by MSE Technology Applications, Inc., in Butte, Montana. Following initial system checks and equipment modifications, pressure testing of the A-2 Lite pressure vessel and nozzle survivability testing of a high-pressure nozzle began. This testing is intended to lead to the construction of a medium-scale hypersonic wind tunnel (MSHWT). System tests, pressure vessel tests, and nozzle blowdown tests continued until April 2004. A summary of the nozzle material development work done by Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is presented. Static pressurization of the A-2 Lite vessel reached a maximum of 1,262 MPa (183,000 psi), setting a world record for a large-volume (2-liter) vessel. Nozzle blowdown tests were successfully completed at 1,000 MPa (150,000 psi) using both nitrogen and air at ambient temperature, using hardened maraging-steel nozzles. No significant degradation was observed in any of the components as a result of the tests." @default.
