- W2318646516 abstract "A major issue in today’s workplace is dealing with employees’ perceptions of the rights and privileges that they are due, which we refer to as psychological entitlement (Heath, Knetz, & Camerer, 1993). While numerous researchers have addressed this topic over the past century (e.g., Freud, 1916; Friedman, 1962; Campbell et al., 2004), many challenges remain for managers who must address potentially inflated beliefs of an employee’s rights and privileges in the workplace. Therefore, this symposium introduces new conceptual and empirical research from well-known entitlement researchers in management as well as personality and social psychology. This work focuses on the nature and the effects of psychological entitlement and it provides strategies for reducing or avoiding elevated entitlement beliefs in the workplace.
