Starting from the pioneering attempt with one receiver made in mid‐twentieth century that soon evolved into the continuous surface wave (CSW) method, subsequent introduction of the two‐receiver approach of the spectral analysis of surface waves (SASW) method, and then twelve‐or‐more‐channel approach of the multichannel analysis of surface waves (MASW) method are described in an approximate chronological order as to their basic principles, effectiveness, and limitations. Current status of the surface wave method in general is also briefly stated with suggestions of future research directions.Permalink: https://doi.org/10.4133/1.2924752FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited byGuidelines for Minimization of Uncertainties and Estimation of a Reliable Shear Wave Velocity Profile Using MASW Testing: A State-of-the-Art Review23 August 2022Advances in surface-wave tomography for near-surface applicationsMyrto Papadopoulou, Farbod Khosro Anjom, Mohammad Karim Karimpour, and Valentina Laura Socco2 August 2021 | The Leading Edge, Vol. 40, No. 8Seismic Site Classification and Site Period Determination of NIT Silchar Using MASW14 August 2020A method of calculating the leaking modes in elastic solid layered mediaBUTSURI-TANSA(Geophysical Exploration), Vol. 73, No. 0Shear Velocity Profiles Obtained from Microtremor Array Data with an Example from Direct Fitting of SPAC CurvesMichael W.
