- W2319156983 abstract "In an opportunity when a 51-year-old female underwent health examination in April 1988, an abnormal calcification shadow was found in palin abdominal roentogenography. Splenic aneurysm with calcification was diagnosed via various imaging methods. Aneurysmectomy was performed, and the tail of the pancreas and the spleen were resected. The postoperative course was favorable. Detailed analysis was performed on 159 well documented cases of a total of 171 cases splenic aneurysm reported from 1911 to 1988 in Japan. The most common cause was portal hypertension, which noted in 51.8% of the 101 cases. Calcification was found in 25.6% of the 133 cases. Rupture of the aneurysm was observed in 23.3%, 46.4% of these dying after rupture. This disease shows no characteristic symptoms and is difficult to detect, When abnormal calcification shadows are found on plain abdominal X-ray films in patients with portal hypertension, splenic aneurysm must be suspected, and a complete examination should be done, The high mortality rate after rupture strongly suggests a necessity of positive surgical treatment before the aneurysm is ruptured." @default.
