- W2319364148 abstract "Rapid air drying of intravitam and supravitam stained fluorochromed smears from tissues and organs (among them --- hemopoietic organs) enables a variety of luminescence peculiarities of both normal and pathologically altered cells to be preserved. By means of this procedure, micronecrotic foci rat least part of them) arising in the hemopoietic organs of irradiated animals were identified with macrophages that phagocytize cells and their fragments. The increase and decrease of micronecrotic foci after irradiation of animals illustrates the dynamics of mobilization of macrophages and of activation of their phagocytic function. Formations close to the radiation caused micronecrotic foci that are like phagocytizing macrophages and can be reproduced experimentally by administering damaged lymphocytes to the spleen and lymphatic nodes of normal animals. Similar results were obtained by local mechanical injury of the spleen (needle prick). The changes disclosed in the pattern of inherent ultraviolet luminescence of macrophages and of phagocytized cells reflect various stages of intracellular digestion of thesc cells and are presumably linked with activation and increased synthesis of hydrolytic enzymes. Luminescent microscopy both in the visible and ultraviolet range of the spectrum proved a simple, convenient but precise tool for studying phagocytosis and intracellular digestion.
