- W2319364863 abstract "Many studies have revealed the human health benefits of different underutilised biochemical compounds from fruits. Antioxidant properties of berry juices of different Vaccinium L. genotypes were evaluated by ABTS·+ radical scavenging capacity (RSC), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC), and Folin-Ciocalteu total phenolic content (TPC) assays. TPC varied in the range of 0.8 – 2.8 mg gallic acid equivalents/g, RSC (ABTS·+), FRAP, and ORAC values were 6.3 – 20.9, 3.1 – 17.8, and 4.2 – 45.6µmol trolox equivalents/g, respectively. The juices of V. angustifolium cultivars demonstrated significantly stronger antioxidant properties than the rest of analyzed samples. The quantification of quinic acid, chlorogenic acid, and rutin in berry juices was done by using ultra high performance liquid chromatography coupled to quadruple and time-of-flight mass spectrometers (UPLC/ESI-QTOF-MS). The content of quinic acid (202.5 – 3613.9 µg/ml), chlorogenic acid (20 – 346.8 µg/ml), and rutin (0 – 26.8 µg/ml) varied depending on cultivar. The cultivars of V. angustifolium 'Freda' and 'Danutė' accumulated the highest quantity of quinic acid 3266.95 µg/ml and 3335.05 ug/ml, respectively. The highest concentration of chlorogenic acid was found in V. corymbosum cultivar 'Northland' (233.23 µg/ml), and V. angustifolium cultivars 'Danutė' (164.9 ug/ml), and 'Freda' (126.7 µg/ml). The lowest amount were determined in V. corymbosum cultivars 'Toro' (39.6 µg/ml); 'Puru', 'Blueray', 'Bluejay' (30.0 µg/ml) and 'Hardyblue' (20.0 µg/ml). The present finding suggests that cultivars of V. angustifolium are exceptionally good source of biologically active phenolic compounds." @default.
