In this approach, we assume that the reservoir model is known from prior knowledge obtained from other independent measurements. Hence, our goal is to only estimate the permeability distribution through inversion. A finite‐difference reservoir simulator is used to model the waterflooding process and to obtain the temporal and spatial distributions of water saturation and salt concentration, which are transformed into the formation resistivity distribution using a resistivity‐saturation formula. A three‐dimensional finite‐difference electromagnetic simulator is then used to calculate. CSEM responses. The permeability distribution is reconstructed using a multiplicative‐regularized Gauss‐Newton algorithm to simultaneously minimize data misfits between observed and simulated CSEM data as well as production data. Compared to the traditional electromagnetic inversion scheme, this approach takes into account any priori information about the reservoir and provides an interpretation that is consistent with the. physics of fluid flow in the reservoir; hence, this enables us to reduce uncertainty in the CSEM data interpretation.Permalink: https://doi.org/10.1190/1.3628167FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited BySimultaneous estimation of permeability and porosity from joint inversion of time-lapse seismic, electromagnetic, and production dataL.
