This resource contains a 16-minute fully narrated instructional video depicting the stepwise procedure for the preparation of tooth # 21, a mandibular left first premolar for a full ceramic metal restoration using a chamfer-type finishing line. The procedure is performed on a mannequin mandible. The presentation goes from the unprepared tooth to the completed preparation with access to the buccal, mesial, distal, and lingual aspects of the tooth by means of chapter markers. The audio-video presentation of the preparation allows enhanced and enlarged unobstructed close-up views. The narration explains precisely the why and how the procedure is performed.The successful mastering of the preparation concepts and its implementation on the mannequin tooth will prepare the dental student to progress to the preparation of a multi-unit bridge restoration, when this publication is reviewed in conjunction with MedEdPortal publication # 8474 entitled “Tooth # 19 Full Cast Crown Preparation Chamfer.”Educational Objectives By the end of this session, learners will be able to: Prepare a mandibular first premolar for a full ceramic metal restoration.Achieve a preparation that satisfies the criteria for the fabrication of a full ceramic metal crown restoration.Follow the steps necessary to appropriately reduce and shape the entire tooth for the requirements of a full ceramic metal crown.
