- W2321810983 abstract "Temelucha sp., platensis group, a primary, solitary, endo-larval parasite of Phthorimaca operculella (Zeller), was studied under laboratory conditions of 26.7±1°C and 50±2% RH. The milky-white, oblong, slightly curved egg is deposited in the body cavity of the host larva where the larvae develop. There are 3 instars, the first being caudate and the other two hymenopteriform. Mature larvae emerged from the host larvae after the latter had spun cocoons, spinning their own cocoons inside those of the host. The total developmental time from egg to adult was ca. 22 days; egg, 3-4 days; 1st instar, 6-7 days; 2nd and 3rd instars, 1-2 days each; prepupa, 1 day; and pupa, 7 days. Adult emergence was stimulated by light, and copulation occurred soon after emergence of either sex. Males mated more than once, females only once. Unmated females produced males only, mated females both males and females. The preoviposition period, if one exists, in less than 12 h. Without food and water, adults died within 3-6 days; with both honey and water, females lived an average 15.2 days and males, 22.3 days. Twenty females had an average ovipositional period of 15.4 days (maximum 20) and produced an average of 556.0 progeny (maximum 782). Longevity of ovipositing females averaged 20.6 days (maximum 28). The sex ratio (♂ : ♀) of their progeny averaged 1.68:1.0. Average production of progeny remained above 40 per day through the first 8 days of oviposition, reaching a peak of 62.6 progeny per day on the 4th day." @default.
