- W2321815818 abstract "Trichoblastoma is a rare, benign tumor that differentiates from the germ cells that are the embryonic precursors of the hair follicle. Many morphological features with nodular basal cell carcinoma are in common, which renders the differential diagnosis difficult. In this report, a trichoblastoma case is being evaluated both morphologically and histopathologically stressing its differential diagnosis from basal cell carcinoma. A 50-year-old female presented with a slow-growing, well-defined 3,5x2cm, spontaneous bleeding and itchy multinodular lesion on the left temporal region. The lesion was excised and the pathology was reported as trichoblastoma. No recurrence was seen after the operation. The reconstruction was aesthetically successful. There are many histological, morphological and immuno- histochemical similarities between trichoblastoma and basal cell carcinoma, which is the most common skin malignancy. Both differentiate from the germ cells that are the embryonic precursor of hair follicles. Trichoblastoma is the most common benign neoplasm associated with nevus sebaceous which is a cutaneous congenital hamartoma. Malign transformation rarely occurs and has been named trichoblastic carcinoma. plastic surgeons should always bear this tumor in mind because of its similarities with basal cell carcinoma and the association with nevus sebaceous." @default.
