- W2321819011 abstract "We experienced a very rare operated case of rectal adenosquamous cell carcinoma. A 51-year-old woman, who was under the treatment of mitral stenosis, underwent subtotal hysterectomy for an enlarging uterine myoma. Postoperatively blood discharge per rectum appeared, and barium enema revealed a lesion of type I on the anterior wall of the upper rectum (Ra). Subsequent colonoscopic biopsy showed a rectal cancer. Re-operation was performed, and a direct infiltration of the rectal cancer into the residual uterocervical area was found. Rectal low anterior resection and extirpation of the residual uteroceroical area were carried out. The excised lesion of the rectum was 11×5×4cm of type I, with ciliated surface. Pathohistologically, squamous cell carcinoma lying sporadically in a moderately differentiated papillary adenoma was revealed, leading to the diagnosis of adenosquamous carcinoma of the rectum. Three months after the first operation, the patient developed local recurrence and died six months thereafter. In an etiologic discussion of colonic adenosquamous carcinoma, the theory of squamous cell metaplasia of colonic adenocarcinoma has been widely supported, however, it should be thought to involve a plurality of mechanisms." @default.
