- W2321850959 abstract "Abstract Electronic particle counters are in widespread use in hospitals and clinics for counting and sizing determinations of particles such as blood cells, bacteria, and cultured cells. These counters have been used for determination of sperm concentration in human semen (Segal and Laurence, 1964), bull semen (Glover and Phipps, 1962), and guinea pig semen (Laurence and Carpuk, 1963). The following study was initiated to investigate the possibility of using an electronic counter 3 for determining sperm concentration of chicken semen. PROCEDURE The electronic counter was adapted for sperm counting by calibration with hemocytometer sperm counts through manipulation of the attenuation, sensitivity and threshold settings as previously described (Brecher et al., 1956; Mattern et al., 1957; Richar and Breakell, 1959; Gregg and Steidley, 1965; and others). A 100 micron diameter orifice was used for all counts since preliminary data indicated that more uniform counts were obtained with that size orifice. Two cocks were …" @default.
