- W2321859018 abstract "Blood circulation plays an important role in the thermal regulation of the human body, particulaly in the periphery. In this study, the mechanism of thermal regulation in the middle human finger has been numerically investigated. A two-dimensional thermal model of the human finger, which consists of skin, tendon, bone, main arteries, and veins, has been developed. The tissue temperatures are obtained by solving the basic bioheat equation using a finite difference scheme. The arterial and venous temperatures, as well as blood perfusion rate are computed by the one-dimensional thermo-fluid model of blood circulation in the upper limb. The geometry of the human finger is obtained from the measurement. The profiles of blood pressure, blood flow rate, and temperatures in the arteries, veins, and tissues are obtained. Simutaneously, the temporal variation of the skin temperature in the hand before and after exercise was measured using thermography in order to verify the periodic characteristic of blood temperature in the periphery. Spectrum analysis of the temperature was carried out. A weak periodic variation was observed in the skin temperature near the blood vessels due to the heart beat when blood flow increased, which corroborated the result simulated by the model." @default.
