- W2321895627 abstract "We present simultaneous electrical and optical measurements on individual ZnO nanowires and demonstrate the influence of the electric field on the luminescence characteristics and the joule heating induced temperature increase. The external electric field of ∼106 V/m causes red shift and reduced intensity of the near band edge emission, consistent quantitatively with the quadratic Stark effect. The temperature increase, monitored by confocal Raman spectroscopy, shows pronounced dependence on the nanowire diameter and becomes dramatic for nanowires with diameters smaller than 100 nm. The emission red shifts are mainly caused by the joule heating for small diameter nanowires but by the electric field for large diameter nanowires. Based on the above results, the implications for device applications are discussed." @default.
