- W2322185791 abstract "In cellular immunity, it is well known that thymus dependent lymphocytes (T-cells) participate in cellular defense reaction against the development of tumor cells and their immunocompetences can be determined by examining the blasting reaction caused by nonspecific agents, such as PHA and Con A.Recently, many studies indicating decreases in the immunocompetence of peripheral blood lymphocytes in cancerous patients and animals in contrast to the normal ones have been published. In the oral region, however, investigations on the immunocompetence of lymph node cells- especially, the regional lymph node cells closely related to the tumor, have not been published. The cervical lymph nodes regarded as the regional lymph nodes of the animal with oral carcinoma have the advantage of the collection of a large amount of lymphocytes. From this point of view, we examined experimentally produced oral carcinomas by the pathological and immunological methods. At first, hamsters with carcinomas of tongues, lips and buccal mucosas caused by using DMBA were histologically examined. On the other hand, the reaction of various cells-including lymphocytes isolated from the affected cervical lymph node (ACLN), non-affected cervical lymph node (non-ACLN), mesenteric lymph node (MLN) and blood with Con A-were immunologically examined. The results are as follows:All the tumors produced were squamous cell carcinomas. The weight of CLN in cancerous hamsters was heavier than that of CLN in normal hamsters and the weight of ACLN in cancerous hamsters was heavier than that of non-ACLN. The lymphocyte-immunocompetence by Con A stimulation is as follows: a) The immunocompetence of cells originated from ACLN in cancerous hamsters was significantly greater than those of cells originated from CLN in normal hamsters. b) No significant differences between the immunocompetence of cells from non-ACLN in cancerous hamsters and that of cells from CLN in normal hamsters were observed. c) The immunocompetence of cells from MLN in cancerous hamsters was smaller than that in normal hamsters. d) The immunocompetence of cells from blood in cancerous hamsters were smaller than that in normal hamsters. In conclusion, ACLN in cancerous hamsters contained much more lymphocytes, and also the regional lymph node cells inhibiting tumors reported by Fisher. These results suggest that the affected regional lymph node possesses immunologic capabilities despite the presence of growing tumors." @default.
