Ces données étaient composées d’une imagerie par résonance magnétique réalisée au plus tard 21 jours après la blessure et d’un auto-questionnaire.Il existait une corrélation significative entre la douleur post-traumatique immédiate et le volume de la lésion (p < 0,05). Elle devenait non significative à 24 heures (p > 0,05), ainsi qu’entre le grade lésionnel et la douleur (p > 0,05). Il n’y avait pas de différence au niveau de la douleur immédiate selon le muscle atteint (p > 0,05) ou le grade lésionnel (p = 0,05). La douleur ne variait pas significativement durant les premières 24 heures post-lésionnelles.D’après nos résultats, la douleur au moment de la blessure était corrélée au volume musculaire atteint. Une lésion très douloureuse fera suspecter une lésion tissulaire plus importante. Ces résultats ont un intérêt pour la prise charge clinique des patients.The main objective of this study was to analyze the potential correlation between pain experienced in a hamstring injury and the size of the muscular lesion observed with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Additional objectives were to investigate potential correlations between pain experienced 24 hours after injury and lesion size, correlation between pain at injury and lesion grading, to compare pain according to damaged muscle and lesion grading, and to describe the pain changes in the first 24 hours.We retrospectively analysed data collected from 64 patients previously collected in a prospective, multicentric and noninterventional study (HAMMER). The data consisted in MRI of hamstring lesions, all taken within 21 days of the injury, and corresponding self-administered surveys.We found a significant correlation between pain experienced during injury and MRI lesion size (P < 0.05). No correlation was found between MRI lesion size and pain experienced 24 hours after injury (P > 0.05), and pain at injury and lesion grading (P > 0.05). There was no difference, in terms of pain felt at the time of injury, depending on the damaged muscle (P > 0.05) or the lesion grading (P = 0.05). No differences were reported between pain experienced at injury and 24 h after.These results show that pain at the time of injury is correlated with the volume of damaged muscle. Therefore, a painful lesion can indicate large tissue damage. These results have clear practical implications for patients’ management." @default.
