- W2322849905 abstract "For the INTELSAT 805/806 program 14-channel Cband output multiplexer assemblies have been designed using for the first time the extended frequency segment from 3.4 GHz to 4.2 GHz (downlink), allocated to fixed satellite services. The frequency plan has implemented a mix of 34, 36, 41, and 72 MHz transponders. As high EIRP is becoming a pressing requirement, the output power of the TWTAs has been increased to 63 W. Key component of the assemblies are the 14 channel contiguous output multiplexers (COMUX), which have the highest number of channels in the C-band ever been reported. The most challenging task was the optimization of the multiplexer, where 182 parameters have to be varied simultaneously. Extensive use of CAD and exact simulation tools have been necessary to achieve the desired design within a tight time schedule. The power handling capability with respect to multipaction is also a very demanding task, since all 14 channels will be operated simultaneously with 63 W/channel. A margin of 3 dB has to be demonstrated, leading to an equivalent peak power of 21 kW in the multicarrier path . This paper describes the design of the assembly with the main emphasis on the multiplexer. The multipacting aspects will be adressed and first test results will be presented. The tasks related to the mechanical and thermal design of this complex unit will also briefly be discussed. The increasing demand for traffic capacity leads to the exploitation of the full 800 MHz frequency segment for C-band. The INTELSAT 805/806 spacecrafts are the first, which make full use of this enlarged frequency band (3.4 to 4.2 GHz Downlink; 5.85 to 6.65 GHz Uplink). Bosch Telecom has developed the 14 channel output multiplexer assembly for this program. The frequency schemes for INTELSAT 805 and 806 are given in Fig. 1. The frequency plan has implemented a mix of 34, 36, 41, and 72 MHz channel bandwidths. The electrical block diagram of the whole assembly is presented in Fig. 2. Each multiplexer assembly comprises the following components: One 14-channel contiguous output multiplexer, 14 waveguide switches, 14 channelised low-pass filters, 16 input isolators, 1 output isolator, 1 PIM filter, interconnecting waveguides, and structural support. The complete multiplexer assembly has been realized in waveguide technique to minimise the losses and, hence, increases the EIRP of the spacecraft. Designing a 14-channel multiplexer at C-Band is an extremely difficult task, which can only be 3502 3582 3663 3743 3803 3843 3883 3923 3976 4015 4055 4095 4135 4177.5" @default.
