- W2323354179 abstract "The modeling results of airborne electromagnetic data acquired across the Edwards Aquifer in Texas are discussed. The data were acquired with the QUESTEM system during two surveys, covering an area south of Hondo. The first survey was flown in 1992, using a base frequency of 90 Hz, and the second, acquired in 1999, used a base frequency of 25 Hz. The modeled conductivity structure of the survey area can be grouped into a zone of high near-surface conductivity (> 250 mS/m) north of an interpreted fault at 3,240,000 N, a moderately conductive unit (200 m thick at 100200 mS/m) dipping gently south from 3,240,000 N to 3,220,000 N and a less conductive zone in the south. A sizeable resistive near-surface pocket has been mapped at 3,215,000 N under which the moderately conductive unit appears to dip away steeply. The derived conductivity structure displayed in three dimensions in the form of resistive and conductive isosurfaces facilitates the spatial appreciation of the modeled resistive and conductive units. As expected, the modeling results reflect the better depth penetration of the 25 Hz AEM system when compared to the 90 Hz system. A preliminary comparison of the results with limited lithological information suggests the highly conductive and moderately conductive units to correspond to the Escondido Formation and Wilcox Group, respectively. The resistive pocket appears to correspond to Carrizo Sand, Queen City Sand, the Reklaw Formation or Pleistocene cover. South of 3,240,000 N the Edwards Aquifer could not be interpreted from the data due to the depth of the formation (250-1000 m) and due to the high conductivities of overlying units. A resistive unit at 200 m depth north of 3,240,000 N is likely to correspond to Edwards limestone or another limestone unit directly overlying the Edwards Aquifer." @default.
