- W2323683695 abstract "Abstract In The majority of studies conducted to determine the nutritive value of chick rations the experimental pens contain chicks of both sexes. Since it is impossible to distinguish the sexes of baby chicks, except in the case of crossbreeding, it is impossible to place in the experimental pens chicks of only one sex or of a desired ratio of sexes. Frequently as the experimental chicks grow it is important to make a comparison of the growth promoting value of different rations. Hence it is desirable to correct for the variation in the ratio of sexes in the different experimental pens. Titus and Jull (1928) in feeding experiments with Rhode Island Red chicks found that ten weeks’ old pullets weighed about 84 percent as much as corresponding cockerels. In a second study by Jull and Titus (1928) in which crossbred (Barred Rock-Rhode Island Red) chicks were used the ten weeks’ old . . ." @default.
