- W2323765422 abstract "An improved shock capturing method is proposed for a high-order discontinuous spectral element method applied to simulation of compressible turbulent flows. The shock capturing method is an extension of the original entropy viscosity (EV) method, developed to capture shock waves and other discontinuities in the flow through adding localized artificial viscosity. The regularization method for Euler system of equations introduces artificial transport coefficients proportional to the local entropy generation which also acts as a shock sensor. In this paper, we present a new formulation for EV method which enables us to extend the use of EV method to turbulent viscous flows. This modified scheme generalizes the EV method, to situations where there are strong physical oscillations like those associated with turbulence. A test simulation for decaying isotropic turbulence is used to demonstrate the improved accuracy and numerical stability of the new scheme." @default.
