- W2324762110 abstract "AbstractThe responsibility of the dental profession in diagnosis and management of headache symptoms is confirmation or exclusion of a craniomandibular component as the primary etiologic factor. This requires a thorough patient history as well as clinical examination of the craniomandibular region. If a causal relationship is established between a craniomandibular disorder and headache symptoms, institution of conservative, reversible management by dental professionals is in order. Treatment modalities documented to be of therapeutic value in management of headache and head pain of craniomandibular origin may include splint therapy, physical therapy, physiotherapy modalities, diagnostic and therapeutic injections and pharmacologic agents including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents and tricyclic antidepressants. Irreversible alteration of the dental occlusion is often unnecessary and should be postponed until the benefits of conservative management can be assessed." @default.
