- W2326409009 abstract "In our results we study the relationship between urine and blood levels. Of 63 samples of blood in which the alcohol concentration was over 80 mg./ 100 mI., 10 (16 %) were associated with urine speci mens containing less than 107 mg./loo mI. Most of these samples were obtained within 1.5 hours of drinking. Of 42 urines in which the alcohol concentration was more than 107 mg./loo mI., the associated blood level was less than 80 mg./loo mI. in only one case. In these subjects 71 determinations were made of the ratio of urine : whole blood alcohol concen tration : and 19 of the ratio of urine: whole blood water (Table 1). The mean result for the urine: blood alcohol ratio was 1.23 ± 0.19 (95 % range, 0.82-1.64). The mean urine: whole blood ratio for water was 1.21 ± 0.02 (95 % range, 1.17-1.25). This ratio appears to be much less variable. The 39 samples obtained after the urinary alcohol peak gave a mean ratio of 1.25 ± 0.19. The PCV in 15 subjects ranged from 42-51 %. In seven it was 48-51 % while in four it was 42 %. The urine: whole blood ratio was compared in samples obtained after the urinary alcohol peak was passed and urine flow was maintained. In the group with the higher PCV, 12 sample pairs gave a mean ratio of 1.29 ± 0.1, while in the other group, 8 sample pairs gave a mean ratio of 1.23 ± 0.19. On the same specimens the urine : plasma ratios were determined (Table 2). The mean ratio for alcohol was 1.09 ± 0.09. This gave a range of 0.89-1.29, about half that obtained with whole blood. In the post-peak samples the ratio was 1.10 ± 0.16, giving a wider range. The urine: plasma water ratio was very much more precise, giving a mean of1.08 ± 0.007. DISCUSSION" @default.
