- W2326574877 abstract "Osteofibrous Dysplasia (Ossifying fibroma of long bone) usually affects the tibia and/or the fibula of the child in the first decade of life. There were only 64 cases reported in the world English literature. We report 4 additional cases; 2 located in the tibia, 1 in the radius and 1 in the ulna respectively. The location of this lesion in the radius and the ulna is unusual and has not been reported previously. In addition to the intracortical location of long bone on roentgenogram, histological examinations show typical woven bones rimmed by active osteoblasts. One case had two recurrences following curettage before 10 years of age. The other three patients who were treated after the age of 18 years had uneventful healing. It is recommended that once the diagnosis of osteofibrous dypplasis is made, only curettage with bone grafting is necessary for those asymptomatic patients who are older than 15 years. Several recent reports have also pointed out that the osteofibrous dysplasia may be allied closely to the differentiated form of adamantinoma. Therefore careful search of the stroma and use of keratin immunostains were performed on multiple sections. No such squamous epithelial cell nests were found in all four cases.
