- W2327093058 abstract "Intravenous inoculation of a penicillin-resistant, phage type 80/81 Staphylococcus caused lethal infection in all of five untreated monkeys. Im administration of 50 mg of antibiotic per kg per day beginning 16 hr after the challenge was followed by survival of all monkeys in five groups of eight monkeys each receiving cephalothin, cephaloridine, cefazolin, cephacetrile, and cephanone, respectively. Antibacterial activity of sera in infected, as well as in normal monkeys, was greatest after treatment with cephaloridine and cefazolin, lowest after treatment with cephacetrile, and intermediate after administration of cephalothin and cephanone. All cephalosporins, however, induced more than adequate antibacterial activity. No other significant clinical or laboratory differences were observed among the five antibiotics. These data suggest that cefazolin, cephanone, and cephacetrile have therapeutic efficacy, similar to that of cephalothin and cephaloridine, in severe staphylococcal sepsis." @default.
